Rick was raised in Costa Mesa, California, and in Chandler, Arizona. He has lived in Utah since 2010. 

Rick attended a volunteer law enforcement academy with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (Phoenix metro area) in 1997, where he finished #1 in a class of about 30 recruits. Rick's firearms proficiency was such that MCSO invited him to become an instructor. 

Rick earned a Bachelor's Degree in business from Arizona State University, and a Juris Doctorate (law) Degree from Concord Law School / Purdue University Global, Los Angeles. He is very familiar with the laws regarding use of force and includes this important information as part of his training. 

Rick is also trained in tactical shotgun skills, and continues to study and gain proficiency in other related subjects such as tactical field medical care, and tactical carbine techniques. He also enjoys learning gunsmithing as a hobby.

In addition to firearms training, RIck offers a course in non-lethal defense alternatives for those who should not or choose not to carry a firearm. 

Rick is a full-time independent insurance agent specializing in health and life coverage, and is licensed in several states. Rick's office is in Spanish Fork, Utah. 

Rick is an avid scenic photographer and is a competitive golfer.
